Naan and Beyond

Apart from good food, Naan and Beyond has a couple things going for it: a great name and a thin, bald, south Asian man with gold hoop earings who yells every order back to the kitchen (do all good take-outs have someone who yells? see "Greek Deli").

Three of us from work went there for lunch today, heading down L Street to the 1600 block. I ordered a Caeser's salad with tandoori lamb tikka. As Caeser's salads go it was true to form: bite-sized cuts of hearts of romaine lettuce with parmesan cheese tossed in dressing. The chunks of lamb, however, were a little drier than I would have liked.

My colleagues, let's call them Feminist Islamist and Eternal Sunshine (she was the "complainer of the bunch" in "Greek Deli" but she complained about her moniker so I've given her a more positive one here), both ordered the chicken tikka sandwhich, tandoor cooked chicken with chopped cabbage wrapped in naan flat bread. Both reccomended it. Feminist Islamist said it is her favorite meal from Naan and Beyond. She also reccomended the paneer tikka sandwhich and the samosas, particularly the chicken samosas. She always makes sure to get a cup of mango sauce whatever her order.

Naan and Beyond has a few tables inside and a few more outside during good weather. The service is strictly over the counter.

Naan and Beyond is located at 1710 L Street NW in Washington, D.C. next door to Ascot Lounge.

This is by far the most popular post on my blog. More people find my blog by searching on "naan and beyond" than on any other terms. Yet, no one has ever commented on this post. Until now that is, when I commented on it myself.

I'll be your first non-self comment... thanks for the post! We're looking for some Indian in this area, and have over-done Nirvana and Aroma. We'll give it a shot. Mango sauce too. :) thanks!

Ooh, I found your blog by searching for "Naan and Beyond" as well.

I know how you feel. People always end up at my blog because of "cubicle decorating guidelines," but they are often disappointed. While I do offer some free cubicle feng shui advice, it's not really what I'm "about."

I don't know what you're "about," as I'm too hungry to stay and read. Maybe I'll come back some day. I see that you're liberal and you like beer and philosophy. That makes you a champ in my book.

Keep it up, champ.

Weird, I found this post by searching for "cubicle decorating guidelines". Must have been SP's comment. I get a lot of searches on my blog for "cubicle decorating guidelines" too, though like SP, that is also not what I'm "about". But hey, it's always nice to get the inside scoop on local eats, so thanks!

I also found the blog searching for naan & beyond (albeit a little late). I'm trying to figure out the secret to that delicious mango sauce. Everywhere I look online, the product comes out yellow, which is clearly not OK.

I think I might enlist my friend to figure it out for me -- that's how I got the recipe for Maggiano's shrimp oreganata!

I found this website because I was searhcing on "cubicle decorating guidelines using naan and beyond" - kidding! - Actually, a friend referred me to this website because of the Naan and Beyond eating recommendations - thanks! I'll have to try the palce.

I am a regular eater at naan and beyond and I have been trying to figure out how they make their version of mango chutney. It's different in both taste and texture compared to "average" mango chutney. Any ideas?
